Cape Town and Peninsula
Cape Town is a beautiful coastal city with a Western feel to it, famous for the Table Mountain reserve and Robben Island, the notorious prison of Nelson Mandela. The beaches are amazing and not to miss, especially Boulders Beach with its beautiful colony of penguins. Visit the most southern point of the peninsula, Cape of Good Hope and try some of the hikes or go for bird watching. Cape Town has so much to offer that you can easily spend three to four days here.
South Africa and especially the Cape Town area has many different wine routes for you to explore, but Stellenbosch is probably the most visited of all with over more than 200 wine estates. Constantia Valley is the closest by the city and is home to some of the country’s oldest and most prestigious wine farms.
Tsitsikamma national park
Tsitsikamma is a coastal reserve known for its indigenous forest and hanging bridge. Hike up the rather strenuous trail to the top and maybe you get lucky and see a whale!
Swartberg Pass and Oudtshoorn
The town of Oudtshoorn is in the Klein Karoo between the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world. The world’s biggest bird is just one of the many attractions in this area such as the spectacular Cango Caves, Africa’s largest show cave system and the Swartberg mountain range, which is part of the Cape Floral World Heritage Site.
Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve
Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve is home to the third largest canyon in the world. The reserve is part of the greater Drakensberg escarpment and is also known for God’s Window, Bourkes’ Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels. It is definitely worth a visit!

You can’t leave South Africa unless you experienced a few days days in a private or public game reserve and spot the big five, accompanied by an experienced guide. Morning and afternoon game drives will provide plenty of opportunity to see these wonderful creatures. It is a life experience to see an elephant up close, a leopard in a tree, or being surrounded by buffalo. Anything can happen when game driving, so keep your camera close by!
The Drakensberg mountains are a real treat for the hiker. There are many trails, of all levels, but all situated in the beautiful scenery of the mountains. Adventurous types can try out the river rafting or canopy tours. In for a quieter experience from the air, a hot air balloon is the perfect choice.

Route 62 is a beautiful road trip that easily can be combined with the Garden Route or even replace it. Route 62 is a 850 km long wine route between Cape Town and Port Elisabeth, straight through the Karoo desert and passing by lots of lovely villages such as Oudtshoorn, Montagu and many more.
