Scuba n Safari Itinerary

Hello and a warm welcome to South Africa. Sport n Safari wishes you a wonderful stay full of unforgettable experiences in our beautiful South Africa.

We believe we have covered almost everything on a scuba diving fanatic list. On this spectacular and fantastic tour you will visit two world heritage sites, dive some of the best dive sites in the word, go on wonderful safari game drives and experience some adrenaline filled activities. When we say an action-packed tour, we mean it. 14 days of exhilarating diving mixed with South Africa’s other heritage and cultures. Other marine experiences to embark on are the turtle laying and hatchlings tours (November to March), whale watching (June-September) and the change to see Whale Sharks, manta rays and much more. Remember as with everything nothing can be guaranteed but as they say “you have to be in it to win it!”

Day 1

TRANSFER TO ACCOMMODATION IN MOUNTAINS

Lodge: Log cabin mountain lodge
Distance : 4 Hours’ drive
Activity: Transfer to lodge and welcoming South African braai.

You are met at QR Tambo International Airport  by your wonderful Sport n Safari guide. Your first destination are the awes inspiring Drakensberg on your way to the coast.

You will stay here 2 nights.

Day 2

EXPLORING THIS WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Accommodation: log cabin mountain lodge
Distance: Local
Activity: Hike to Vulture breeding colony, horse riding and or fly fishing.

Today you will explore this incredible environment on foot and horseback. You will take a hike to one of only a few Cape Vulture breeding colonies left on the planet. This is truly an amazing experience watching these majestic birds fly at eye level past you. On the hike there you will also see some bushman paintings that tell a story of a time before us. Back for lunch and a choice of activities for you to enjoy. A horse ride, fly fishing or relax by the pool.

Day 3

TRANSFER TO EAST COAST

Accommodation: Hotel/House in Umhlanga near Durban
Distance: 4 Hours’ drive
Activity: Transfer and walk along beachfront

Today after breakfast you leave this first of two world heritage sites on your way to the warm Indian Ocean, off South Africa’s east coast. After lunch in the magical midlands meander and visit to a heritage site you check into your accommodation. An afternoon stroll on the beachfront is a good way to end the day before early morning awaiting you.

You will be staying here 4 nights.

Day 4

TWO TANK DIVES AT ALIWAL SHOAL

Accommodation: Hotel/House in Umhlanga
Distance: 1 Hours’ drive
Activity: Two tank dives

An early morning rise as we fin off for your first few dives on the world famous Aliwal Shoal, an hour’s drive away.

After an exciting beach launch and about 40 minutes on your inflatable boat you reach the Aliwal Shoal, a rocky reef which is the remains of an ancient sand dune. The reef is about 2½ km’s long with an average width of 150 meters, varying dephts from 6 to 27 meters and a big diversity of marine life. Aliwal Shoal is one of the top dive site in the world and certainly South Africa

Day 5

SHARK DIVE/SNORKEL AND VISIT DURBAN BEACHFRONT

Accommodation: Hotel/House in Umhlanga
Distance: 1 Hours’ drive
Activity: Shark dive and/or reef dive. Afternoon visit to Durban beachfront

Today you will have an amazing shark encounter either on a shark scuba dive (advanced divers) or a shark snorkel. Depending on what you feel like another reef dive can be arranged as well. On our way back to the accommodation you can visit Durban beach front or Ushaka Marine World.

Day 6

WRECK DIVE AND LONGEST ZIP LINE IN AFRICA

Accommodation: Hotel/House in Umhlanga
Distance: 1 Hours’ drive
Activity: Spectacular wreck dive and zipline tour

Last dive in this region on a deep wreck dive (advanced divers) or a reef dive. After the dive and once you have freshened up we head inland to a beautiful place with huge cliffs to take on the longest zipline tour in Africa.

Day 7

TRANSFER TO 5* SAFARI LODGE AND AFTERNOON GAME DRIVE

Lodge: Safari suites
Distance : 4.5 Hours’ drive
Activity: Leave after breakfast to arrive at lodge for lunch and afternoon game drive

A bit off a lie in today and three days of resting in the African bush awaits you. This is needed after an action packed 4 days of diving. You head deep into the bush to a piece of paradise and be spoilt at this exclusive safari lodge. The modus operandi is early morning and afternoon game drives.

You will be staying 2 nights at this tucked away luxury lodge, surrounded by bush and wildlife. 

Day 8

SAFARI GAME DRIVES

Accommodation: Safari suites
Distance: Local
Activity: Morning n afternoon game drives

Again, early morning wake-up call to go and find as many animals as possible. Back for breakfast and time to just relax. Enjoy the lodges beautiful facilities and surroundings and just for once watch time stand still for a few hours. After lunch and high tea, its off for the afternoon game drive in your open safari vehicle. 

Day 9

MORNING GAME DRIVE N TRANSFER TO DIVE LODGE

Accommodation: En-suite chalets
Distance: 3 Hours’ drive
Activity: Morning game drive, check out and transfer to next dive location

Last opportunity to spot the animals before you head to the next scuba diving lodge. The afternoon will be spent exploring your new environment.

Day 10

TWO REEF DIVES

Accommodation: En-suite chalets
Distance: Local
Activity: Two scuba dives today

A total different environment than the African bush and Aliwal Shoal. Sodwana Bay and surrounding reefs in this world heritage site is regarded as South Africa’s premier diving destination and a world top dive site as well. The warm Indian ocean and abundant sea life awaits you and time to dive in.

Day 11

MORNING DIVES AND TRANSFER TO LAST DIVE LODGE

Accommodation: Luxury tented accommodation 
Distance: 1,5 Hours’ drive
Activity: One or two dives and transfer to remote lodge and pristine reefs

This morning you have the choice (as with the whole tour) if you want to do one or two dives. After lunch we transfer to the last part of this tour. This lodge is only one of two along this stretch of coast which affords you the opportunity to dive on a reef few people do and the “fin” print hardly exists.

You will be staying 3 nights in this little paradise, which is one of the best places in the world for scuba diving and snorkling. It is situated nearby a pristine tropical beach,  a 20 min walk from the camp, but shaded by the coastal forest. 

Day 12

MORNING DIVE AND FOREST HIKE

Accommodation: Luxury tented accommodation
Distance: Local
Activity: Morning dive

After your morning dive on the rocky reef and brims with diverse marine life, you can enjoy a forest walk and catch a glimpse of birds, and even a number of small antelope.

Day 13

MORNING DIVE AND LOCAL COMMUNITY/LAKE SIBAYA VISIT

Accommodation: Luxury tented accommodation
Distance: Local
Activity: Morning dive

Today is your last opportunity to dive in this paradise. The rest of the day is time to relax, go on the local community cultural visit or visit the nearby Lake Sibaya.

Lake Sibaya is the largest fresh water lake  in South Africa. Accompanied  by a guide or solo, there is no better way to explore the many tiny inlets around the lake edge. You will have the opportunity to see small game and of course plenty of crocodile and hippos.

Day 14

TRANSFER TO DURBAN FOR FLIGHT BACK HOME

Accommodation: Luxury tented accommodation
Distance: 5.5 Hours’ drive
Activity: Lie in and transfer to Durban airport

Time to say goodbye and head on back to King Shaka International Airport. On the way we stop for some last minute craft shopping and lunch.
